how to start affiliate Marketing ?

Wondering how to make money online?
You’re not alone. Many aspiring entrepreneurs are also interested in making money with an internet-based “side hustle” to supplement their regular income or even starting an online business to replace their income entirely.
Though there are many ways to make money on the internet, one of the fastest and easiest ways to make money online is by starting an affiliate marketing business. Even if it’s not as easy as making money with ads on your website, it’s still relatively simple to do and has more profit potential than just simply running advertisements on your website.

So what is affiliate marketing? And how does it work?

Affiliate marketing is the process by which an affiliate earns a commission for marketing another person’s or company’s products. The affiliate simply searches for a product they enjoy, then promotes that product and earns a piece of the profit from each sale they make. The sales are tracked via affiliate links from one website to another.

The idea behind it is that you promote other people’s products, often through an affiliate network, earning a commission if people actually end up buying thanks to your marketing.
It’s based on revenue sharing. If you have a product and want to sell more, you can offer promoters a financial incentive through an affiliate program. If you have no product and want to make money, then you can promote a product that you feel has value and earn an income from it as an affiliate marketer

Now you know the basic definition of affiliate marketing and how the process works, so let’s talk about how to get started.

Step #1: Decide on a platform

Theoretically, you can do affiliate marketing on any platform. Even Instagram works.
However, it’s much easier to build an audience and increase your affiliate sales via one of two channels: a blog or YouTube channel.
Starting a blog today is relatively easy and cheap. There are plenty of tutorials online that teach you how to get started. Once your site is up, optimize it for search engines so that you have a better chance of ranking. From there, you’re free to add affiliate links to your content.
The other platform is YouTube. Creating and uploading content to YouTube is free, which makes it ideal for many people. Optimize your videos for SEO, and include affiliate links in your description.

Step #2: Choose your niche

Choosing a niche will give focus to your business and help you with content. It’ll also make it easier to create targeted marketing campaigns.
For some people, choosing their niche is the hardest part of starting their own business, but it doesn’t have to be that way. To find one, you need to answer a few questions:

  • What am I passionate about? Typically, the things we’re passionate about are things we’re also already knowledgeable about, which makes it much easier to create content.
  •  Is this topic big enough? Is there enough to the topic to create up to 100 blog posts? If not, you may struggle with search engine optimization or have trouble developing authority.
  •  Is the niche oversaturated? Is there room for another affiliate in the niche? Before jumping into an overly popular niche and trying to compete with folks who’ve been around for a while, maybe give another niche a try.
  •  Is there money in this niche? Money isn’t everything, to be sure. If you’re interested in a couple of topics and one is a moneymaker, but one isn’t… choose the moneymaker.

You can check out a niche on an affiliate retailer like ClickBank to see if it’s worth putting time into it.

Step #3: Create Quality Content

Once you’ve found a profitable niche that you’re excited about, you’re ready to build a website and start blogging.

Content marketing will be the backbone of your affiliate promotional efforts. but producing regularly can be a real challenge, here are some tips to help you engage your audience :

A) Write Reviews: You can write detailed reviews of products, courses, books or software products you promote as an affiliate.
B) Write Definitive Content on a Related Topic: you may also post on your site to educate your readers and “soft sell” your products and then work to get it ranking in the search engines.
C) Create Valuable Bonus Content: Assuming it’s allowed by your affiliate agreement (sometimes it’s not), you can create bonus content, exclusive to your readers, that helps people get even more value from the affiliate product.
People love bonuses! You can create many types of bonuses fairly quickly and easily while still giving your readers excellent value

Some affiliate networks and affiliate programs require you to already have established content, site traffic, and monthly views at a certain level before they’ll accept you as an affiliate.
So Start Writing Content…And don’t stop. This is by far the most critical step in the process of learning how to start affiliate marketing. In order to create and grow your website, you need to pack it full of content your visitors won’t find anywhere else online.

Step #4: Choose the Right Affiliate Network

Affiliate marketing networks are essentially online marketplaces where retailers list their products and affiliates can find products to sell. The marketing network acts as a middleman. As the affiliate, you should never have to pay to sign up for an affiliate marketing network.
Many affiliate networks exist, some of which are tied to well-known companies like Amazon, Google, and Apple, while others specialize in specific types of products and services.

Take the time to study and research the seller with care before teaming up. The fit must be right between you and the merchant who is going to benefit from your promotional efforts, or it simply won’t work.
in some cases, you may work with a company or individual directly as an affiliate; rather than going through a network. Entrepreneurs or companies may run their own affiliate program and you can apply directly to them to promote their products and services. If you see a product that you would really like to promote as an affiliate and the company doesn’t offer a formal affiliate program, you can always reach out to them to work out a private deal as well.

Step #5: Choose Affiliate Products to Promote

If you’ve done the work to choose a niche, choosing affiliate products to promote should be easy! Choose products that fit your niche and relate to your content.
Where do you get ideas for products to promote? Anywhere, really:

A. Promote Products you Already Use

What do you already use and love? There’s probably an affiliate program for that.
Make a list of all of the products and services that you use and hit up Google to find their affiliate programs. Then, write reviews and plug in the affiliate links.

B. Promote Products That Fill a Need

Listen to the people who are interested in your niche. What problems are they facing? Are there gaps in the solutions that are already available? Find products that can help and try them out. If the products are good, become an affiliate and recommend them. Your audience wants solutions. If they work, they’ll be willing to pay for them.

C. Promote Products Your Audience Wants to Know About

Ask your audience what they’re interested in and try it. If it’s a good product, recommend it. If it isn’t, tell them. At best, you’ll get sales. At worst, you’ll gain more trust from your audience. Which basically means there’s no “worst” here.

D. Promote Products From Others in Your Niche

Pay attention to other affiliate marketers in your niche. What are they talking about and promoting? What ads are they using? Check out Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook to take a look at #affiliate and #ad to see what other affiliates are promoting.

Step #6: Drive traffic to your affiliate site

You’ve created great content. The next step is to get more people to read it, so they will click on your affiliate links.
Here are three traffic strategies to consider:

A. Paid traffic :

This is where you pay for traffic to your site. You can do this using PPC ads.
The advantage of paid traffic is that the moment you start paying, you get traffic.
However, there are some downsides.
First, running ads will dig into your profits. It’s quite normal for advertisers to lose money before they make it… if they ever do. You need to be realistic about how long it takes to optimize a paid traffic campaign.
Secondly, once you stop paying for ads, your traffic will stop.
Generally speaking, ads are a great traffic strategy if you’re part of a high-paying affiliate program and can make the numbers work.
But if you’re completely new to paid marketing and have no marketing budget, then it might not be such a great idea.

B. Search engine optimization (SEO)

SEO is the practice of optimizing pages to rank high in search engines like Google.

For as long as you can rank high in the search engines for your target keywords, you’ll get consistent and passive traffic.
On the most basic level, SEO is about:
1. Understanding what your target customers are searching for;
2. Creating content around those topics (blog posts, product pages, etc.);
3. Taking care of the “technical” stuff to push these pages higher in the search engines (which includes link building).

C. Build an email list

Email lists allow you to communicate with your readers anytime.
Use them to tell fans about new content and keep them coming back to your site for more. This leads to more affiliate clicks and sales. You can even send affiliate email promotions to your list directly.
To build an email list, you need to persuade the readers on your site to sign up. That means offering something valuable.
But there are plenty of ways to do this: you can show a slide-in box at the end of every article, put a “subscribe” link on their navigation bar, or offer a free eBook, an email course, etc
All you need is some creativity.

Step #7: Track Your Results

Tracking your affiliate links can help you understand which products perform better with your audience which can help you provide better products to them in the future.
Even better, you’ll be able to use this knowledge to provide them with better content, increasing their trust and loyalty. which will keep them coming back to you again.
You can use many WordPress plugins to easily track the performance of your affiliate products such as :

Affiliate Manager
Ultimate Affiliate Pro
Pretty links

# Bonus:  Stay current with trends:

There is serious competition in the affiliate marketing sphere. You’ll want to make sure you stay on top of any new trends to ensure you remain competitive. Additionally, you’ll likely be able to benefit from at least a few of the new marketing techniques that are constantly being created. Be sure you’re keeping up to date on all these new strategies to guarantee that your conversion rates, and therefore revenue, will be as high as possible.

That dream you’ve had of making passive income isn’t just a silly fantasy.
It’s a completely achievable reality.
Sure, it’s not as easy as pushing a magic button or throwing Google Adsense all over your site, but with a little knowledge and persistence, you can definitely do it and even turn it into an online business.

Why Google Chrome Blocks Mixed Content pages ?

If you are using SSL it’s important to pay attention to your website pages and ensure that all your content is served via a secure connection. Here are some tips on what to do if you find any “mixed content” or “insecure content” errors and how to fix them.

What is Mixed Content?

With TLS (also known as SSL), Internet communication is encrypted end-to-end, creating a more secure browsing experience. Users can easily identify TLS-encrypted sites because they have ‘https://’ in the URL instead of ‘http://’. But in some instances, an HTTPS site can also contain some elements that are loaded using the plaintext HTTP protocol. This creates a condition known as mixed content, sometimes referred to as ‘HTTP over HTTPS’.

With mixed content, users will be under the impression that they are on a secure, encrypted connection because they are on an HTTPS-protected site, but the unencrypted elements of the page create vulnerabilities, opening up those users to malicious activity such as unauthorized tracking and man-in-the-middle attacks. The severity of the vulnerability depends on whether the mixed content is passive or active.

What’s the difference between passive/display mixed content and active mixed content?

Active mixed content

In this case, elements or dependencies that can interact with and alter the entire webpage are served over HTTP. These include dependencies like JavaScript files and API requests.
Active mixed content presents a more severe threat than passive mixed content; when compromised, it allows an attacker to take over an entire webpage, steal passwords, login credentials, user cookies or redirect users to other sites, etc.

Passive mixed content

In this case, the unencrypted HTTP content is restricted to encapsulated elements on the site that cannot interact with the rest of the page such as images or videos.
An attacker can intercept an HTTP request (resources loading via Http) for videos or images on your site and replace those images with whatever he wants. he can also replace your product pictures or place ads for a different product.

How can I investigate mixed or insecure content errors?

You may not know whether your site contains mixed content, but don’t worry. You can find out quickly with a Secure Sockets Layer checker (SSL checker). This kind of tool verifies that your site’s Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate has been properly installed and that your security is sound.
You can use our online SSL Checker to get a rating not only on the certificate but also on its protocol support and any potential vulnerabilities.

how to Eliminate Mixed Content from Your Website

If you discover mixed content on your website, don’t panic. There are multiple ways you can remove it, and make sure your site remains visible in search engines. With a few tweaks, your website can be more secure in no time.

Step 1: Install an SSL Certificate

While some hosts will supply an SSL certificate along with your plan, not all do so by default. If you haven’t installed one yet, this is a vital task. An SSL certificate adds an extra layer of protection for you and your visitors and enables your site to function via HTTPS.

There are three main types of SSL certificates :

  •  Domain Validation (DV)
  •  Organization-Validation (OV)
  •  Extended Validation (EV)

DV certificates are the easiest and quickest to get but offer the lowest level of security. OV certificates are a solid middle option, while an EV will take longer to secure but is a good choice for large e-commerce sites.

Step 2: Remove Any HTTP Hyperlinks from Your Website

As we mentioned earlier, most sites are served over either the HTTP or the HTTPS protocol. HTTPS allows for encryption and adds a layer of safety to your website.
Even if your site is linking to an external resource that contains an HTTP hyperlink, such as an image, you’re opening up your website to possible attacks. That also puts your website’s visitors at risk.
One method for fixing this problem is Google’s audit system. To use it, you will have to install Chrome’s Canary first, and then use Lighthouse (installed through npm) to perform the check.

Once everything is set up, run the audit by using the following code to get your report:

lighthouse --mixed-content http://www.example.com

Lighthouse will show you all of the insecure links that are currently on your website. Then you can modify or replace them as needed.

Step 3: Set Up a 301 Redirect to Boost Security

If you have updated your website from HTTP to HTTPS, you may want to consider implementing a 301 redirect. This type of redirect permanently reroutes users from one domain to another.
If you choose not to do this, some visitors may inadvertently end up using an insecure version of your website, or might never find it at all. To make sure everyone is redirected to the HTTPS version of your site, you’ll want to access your .htaccess file via File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Then add the following line of code at the bottom of the file:

Redirect 301 / http://www.yourwebsite.com/

Don’t forget to replace the placeholder with your site’s domain. Then save and re-upload the file, and your redirect will be ready to go.

1. Start a blog

We will be honest: blogging isn’t the easiest way to make money. But, the great thing is that anyone can do it, and it looks amazing on your CV.

All you need is something interesting to say and enough patience and dedication to build traffic and gain followers.
As a blogger, you’re in complete control of when you work, how you monetize your blog, and what you write about.
You can write your blog in the evenings, on your lunch break or during your weekends. Blogging is a long game, so be prepared for that because it does take some work before you start earning.

2. Become a Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant (VA) is a person that can give support to other businesses from a remote location. Thanks to high-speed internet, document sharing and cheap conference calling systems, virtual assistants are in high demand by entrepreneurs and online businesses that need help but don’t want to bring on full-time staff in a specific location.
This is one of the most flexible options you can choose. As a Virtual Assistant, you can customize your services depending on your skills or passions. From appointment scheduling to inbox assistance, there is a wide array of items that busy professionals need help with.
Just be aware that you’ll need to have excellent time management and be willing to hustle for each client if you want to make it in the VA world.
Having strong time-management skills can ultimately lead you to accomplish more tasks and work for many clients.

3. Start a Dropshipping business

Dropshipping is also a little under the radar, as this side business idea is a subset of eCommerce: Dropshippers sell products to customers that are shipped directly from the manufacturer or supplier, which leaves you plenty of room for profit and frees a lot of time that could be spent on finding a niche to sell to, marketing your products, reaching new buyers, or helping your customers.
There is a lot of options to consider when building your eCommerce website, such as Magneto, Shopify or WooCommerce, these platforms provide customizable themes, drag and drop editors, and custom domains.

4. Sell Graphic Design Services

If your friends are always asking you to create signs or posters….then graphic design might be an excellent side hustle for you. You don’t need to master all aspects of design, either. You can focus on logos, website themes, or whatever else you like.

To get started, you’ll have to set up a portfolio on your website or you can use social media sites like Instagram to display samples of your work. Another approach is to use a platform such as Creative Market.

The Creative Market website

When you set up an account with Creative Market, you can display your graphic design work to millions of potential clients. It works as your digital storefront. Some benefits of using this option, in particular, are that you can set your own prices and you are not locked into selling on Creative Market exclusively.
But what if you’re not good with design?
You can use Shopify apps such as Printful and Printify allow you to easily upload custom designs to products like t-shirts, mugs, canvas bags, pillows, and more, so you can directly import new products into your Shopify store.

5. Baking or Cooking

Do friends and family gush over your homemade cookies? Do you make the most amazing homemade desserts? If you have a cooking skill, you can turn your passion into income. Even if you are not the next Master Chef, you might find your food sales business to be a lucrative one.
Check with your city before you start selling to make sure you have appropriate licenses and permits. Once you are legal, you can sell online, through local grocery stores or restaurants.

6. Online Tutoring

If you have academic chops to help students with an array of subjects such as math, writing, a foreign language or any other class where students from kindergarten through college may struggle, you could have a business on your hands. It is a great way to supplement your existing full-time income with a little more cash.
You can put up posters and get the word out locally if you want to work with students in your area or use Social Media to promote your services online.

7. Manage Social Media Posts

If you are great with social media and know how to reach people on various platforms, you could start your own social media management side business.
Running Facebook ads for small businesses is simply digital marketing through Facebook, which continues to be one of the best online platforms for small businesses to increase their traffic and visibility.
If you’re great at networking, up on all the latest social platforms, and can juggle 10 accounts at once, managing social media posts might be just the right side hustle for you. When you’re able to showcase your social media talents to potential clients, you really don’t need any other special qualifications.
There are a few skills and applications you might want to be able to demonstrate knowledge of, however. This can help set you apart from the competition. For example, mastering applications like Hootsuite can give you a leg up on your rivals.

8. Narrate audiobooks.

If you love to read books and have a voice that people love listening to, try audiobook narration.
To get started narrating, you will need:

  • A mic
  • Pop screen
  •  Headphones
  •  Recording and editing software
  •  A quiet space and a computer

With the rise of Audible, the demand for audiobook narrators is climbing so it will be fairly easy to find work. To start looking for work, you should start networking on Facebook groups and online forums where people are audiobook narrators.

9. Set Up a Consulting Service

If many of the above options appeal to you, but you’re more of a “big picture” kind of person, you can always set up a consulting service. This can cover a wide range of professional areas or skills. It’s also an excellent way to make use of abilities you have that you might not be using in your day job.
You’ll first need to establish your experience and expertise in the category you’re offering consulting services for. You can make use of platforms like Linkedin if you want to present a more professional image.

Keep in mind that to start up a successful consulting business, you will have to put together a clear outline of the agreed-upon work for each client. It’s vital to make sure upfront that all parties are on the same page in terms of what the consult will include.

10. Create YouTube tutorials.

Although this isn’t the quickest way you can make money with a side income, creating YouTube tutorials can help you earn a respectable amount of income as long as what you deliver is engaging and keeps people interested for long enough.

You could also use free tutorials to upsell viewers on products and services you might be offering
